“Rethink Medium” chaired and curated by Gary Xu Gang

on April 23rd, 2017,

at Beijing Minsheng Art Museum.

 This symposium is in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition “Tiön: Bai Ming’s Kingdom” One of the most active contemporary artists based in Beijing and Dean of Ceramic Arts at Tsinghua University, Bai Ming has exhibited his ceramic, ink, and mixed media works in important solo and group shows around the world. This solo exhibition at Minsheng is the museum’s 2017 highlight show.

The lecture by Ilaria Bignotti, “The Strength of Medium. Bai Ming’s works in dialogue with Post-War and recent trends of contemporary International Art”, will try to compare Bai Ming’s works with artistic researches that belong to her working experiences and studies:

Spatialism, Object-Painting, Environmental art between 50s and 70s, with focus on

Antonio Scaccabarozzi, Paolo Scheggi, Zero and New Tendencies movements,

and to contemporary artists, such as Maurizio Donzelli, Arthur Duff, Alberto Gianfreda, Francesca Pasquali, Laura Renna, and others.
